Strealing an eBook is software copyright violation

Editing:

Editing is done by our in-house staff. The author is always responsible for grammar, format, spelling and accuracy. Subject matter expert reviewers may be used, in which case, the author is expected to edit to the reviewer's comments.

Covers:

The author may suggest a cover design, submit a cover design, or we will provide one. We do not do photoshoots with modles at this time.

Submission Formats:

Refer to the submission guidelines. Basically, we can take files from a wide variety of source files but you MUST have up-to-date virus protection on your system. We will want your op sys version, your virus protection software and date of last update, and the software you used (WORD, FrameMaker, etc.) and its version. People supplying artwork (technical illustrations) should also be careful to follow our artwork guidelines.

Media:

We can read Mac or PC ZIP disks, 100 MB or 250MB. We can also read CDs and DVDs but they MUST be formatted for Mac/PC (dual) format. No floppies and no tapes. We can also handle electronic submission but do not forward the complete manuscript unless requested to do so. Unsolicited full manuscripts will end up in the trash.

Royalties:

For books which arrives ready to go as a PDF eBook, with/without the required ISBN number, we pay 80% of the cover price.

For books which arrive ready to go as a PDF eBook, with/without the required ISBN number, and for which we will perform marketing services, we pay 50-60% of the cover price (function of the marketing).

For books we assemble and layout, and for which we perform marketing services, we pay 40% of the downloaded price of each item, and accounting is summarized quarterly. Depending on the layout required, charges for that service are billed against the gross sales price. We will provide the required ISBN number.

In all cases, an estimate is made before we start work and a SOW and contract ae signed before we begin to work on your project.

The author and WhitePubs will work together to determine the market price to be used for the book.

We can also help you go on-line with an HTML free-to-reader version of your book for which you would receive page hit royalties. This involves a 3rd party and is subject to change.

Expectations:

Authors often expect to strike it rich. Not with an eBook. Not at this time. High-Tech books are generally more expensive becasue fewer of them are sold. They are a restricted niche market.

eBooks, like everything else that was birthing at about the time the dot.com crash occurred got slammed along with eLearning. Only technical publications in eBook formats, 99% of which are PDF, have survived, and most of those are provided free to customers by the companies that author them. eBooks are a growing business and overtime they will come into their own.

Technical textbooks are a natural extention of on-line PDF data sheets and manuals, therefore, this site will host technical books.

Textbooks for K-12 have not made very many inroads but it will be something we take a very hard look into in the future. At least one high-school has shifted to eBooks for its students to eliminate students lugging aroud heavy backpacks. We expect this to be a growing trend.

No book sells without promotion. While we will do some marketing of our lines, authors should expect to promote their own works. A good book may sell a few hundred copies a year, or it may not. We cannot even guess. Public tastes shift daily.

A successsful hardcover technical book sells from 4,000 to 10,000 copies total. An eBook should expect to sell something less depending on the audience, the competition, the promotion and the quality of the book. A technical book sells for $50 to $250 in the current market depending on length, artwork, and subject matter.

Publication Formats:

We are currently eBook only and our primary publication format is Adobe secured PDF. Technical books will stay in PDF format since that is the current industry standard. See New to eBooks.

Manuscript submission should follow the on-line submission guidelines.
